Knowth Lodge, Slane, C15 TX02
This charming house is a just delight to introduce! Knowth Lodge is a period cut stone home built in the Parnell style of the late 1800’s. Not only is it a gorgeous country home, it also occupies a beautiful setting, overlooking the beautiful Boyne Valley. Honestly, to have such a sight on your doorstep is a true gift of nature.
I should, first, explain the location: the house is situated in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site, with Knowth and Newgrange among its prestigious neighbours. Slane village is a 5 minute drive, and Drogheda is 15 minutes away. The M1 (junction 10) is only 8 minutes away!
The house is very stylishly appointed in country style, and, having been upgraded and extended in c 2000, it certainly delivers on comfort and practicality too. And it’s full of quirky features inside and out.
Knowth Lodge is certainly deceptive: although it appears to be smaller from the roadside, it measures a very agreeable c 95 sq m. The front door leads through to the kitchen – this is a solid wood inframe kitchen with plenty storage and the sort of country notes you would expect, such as Belfast sink.
To the left is the living room – it’s finished with original wooden floor and a free standing stove that’s set into a block hearth with quarry tile floor beneath. This is a very cozy space. It leads to the dining room – a very smart addition with windows running full width of the space, from which to gaze at the rolling view beyond, and French doors onto a substantial decking area outside – more on this later. Behind the dining room is the utility room and downstairs shower room.
Upstairs are three bedrooms – each with their own charming features and good proportions. The third is the larger of the three – it’s a very good size and is a great vantage point for those gorgeous views. Bathroom completes first floor accommodation.
And so to the outside. The house is at the front of the site, so the garden is all to the back. Decking wraps around the rear of the house, and maximizes the sun’s afternoon path south to west. The decking area is well landscaped with mature silver birch trees lining the boundary. At the bottom of the garden is possibly the best ‘Work From Home’ space I’ve seen yet! A little outhouse provides a warm, uninterrupted space from which to work, and is complete with its own little terrace – the ideal spot for enjoying the Hill of Slane in the distance.
Joanne commented: ‘Knowth Lodge is a charm – it’s a gorgeous 3 bed home with much to enjoy. It will appeal to people both from near and far, given the attraction to this historic setting.’
