Families of Dundalk is a brand new radio series presented by Joanne Lavelle, well known in Dundalk for her work in property and her deep connection to the local community. Broadcast on Dundalk FM 97.7, this series celebrates the heart of Dundalk, its long-established family businesses and the people behind them.
Set in the vibrant town of Dundalk, Co. Louth, this 6-part series brings listeners behind the scenes of some of the town’s most recognised and trusted businesses. Joanne Lavelle sits down with local business owners to uncover their stories, their challenges, and the lessons learned from serving the Dundalk community across generations.
With Dundalk continuing to grow as a thriving hub for business, culture, and community, Families of Dundalk highlights the importance of supporting local and preserving the legacy of independent family-run enterprises.
This 6-part series explores the role that independent family businesses play in Dundalk.
In this series, Presenter Joanne Lavelle, who herself is an independent 2nd-generation businesswoman in Dundalk, gets to meet some of the longest-standing families operating in our town centre. She finds out how they started, how they have evolved and overcome challenges, and what is important to them as independent business owners. Joanne also checks in with some local experts to ask their views on how Dundalk is as a town, and a place to live, thrive and do business. These include a local historian, an academic, a devoted town centre advocate and Dundalk Chamber of Commerce.
Common themes emerge in these very personal, honest and genuinely enjoyable conversations: the importance of families serving families, the critical role that Dundalk’s Business Improvement District Scheme (BIDS) has played in raising the experience for Dundalk’s shoppers, the unique values of an Irish family business and the joy that all of these local businesses have in serving the visitors, shoppers and clients of Dundalk.
